The Italian Garden Project™ has partnered with the Village Garden Club of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, a member of the Garden Club of America to document a traditional Italian American vegetable garden for the Smithsonian Institute’s Archives of American Gardens.

The Archives of American Gardens offer landscape designers, historians, researchers, and garden enthusiasts access to a collection of over 60,000 photographic images and records documenting historic and contemporary American gardens.

The garden of Giovanni and Maria Macchione is now a a part of this distinguished collection and we think there couldn’t be a more worthy submission. Our sincere thanks to the Macchiones for allowing the Village Garden Club’s History and Design Committee and The Italian Garden Project ™ access to their amazing garden and for sharing their extensive gardening knowledge with us.

The committee made numerous visits to the garden throughout the 2012 gardening season in order to compile the information necessary to complete the formal documentation  process.
